Hi Everyone,

I am doing my last semester in master' program and will graduate by end of December. But I am planning to visit home in China in mid of Jan for one month (Chinese new year). MY friend suggested me to apply for PGWP before leaving for home....however, U of T will not be able to provide the confirmation letter of program completion at least before Jan 20th! That means I cannt even apply for before I leave...

SO, I wonder if I can still return to Canada with my study permit and entry visa in mid of February?? ??? I will apply for PGWP once I come back since it is only eligible within 3 months after graduation.

Anyone has done this before? MY study permit and entry visa (multiple) are both valid till Nov 2017!

Please give any suggestions or share your thoughts. Thanks in advance! :D

Have you received your last mark in your master's program? That is technically the date when the 90 days period to apply for PGWP begin IMO. Once you received all your final marks in your program you can ask for a Letter of Degree Completion which confirms that you have completed all the requirements for your program. If that's your case, U of T should be able to provide the letter in less than a week.

I'm guessing you haven't finished your program yet though so that's why they are still not able to provide you with the letter. So as long as you keep that in mind, you should be able to go back to China and come back since you have both a valid permit and visa. Once you have the letter you can apply for the PGWP. (I did mine online and got it in 33 days or so so you should be fine time-wise as well). Good luck with everything and let me know if you have any other questions!

Cheers

P.S. If you have finished your program and your final marks are already registered in ROSI/ACORN, you should complain or explain your situation because it seems unfair and ridiculous that the faculty is taking that long to give you a letter that is necessary for your PGWP.

Thanks JA.SM!

No, I haven't finished my program, but I am finishing all courses by this term (December 2016). The grade will be posted on ACORN in early January ("W January 18 Fall session grades available for viewing by students on Student Web Service (ROSI/ACORN)" ). Thats why I couldnt even have the letter before January 20. But I guess the 90-day period will start from Jan 18!

My plan was going back to China in early Jan and then coming back in mid of Feb, and I will be eligible to apply for PGWP at that time.

However, my concern is technically I will no longer be a student in Feb when I come back...and I am not sure if I can entry Canada with my study permit and TRV ..... :'( I really don't wanna waste one month waiting for the letter and then another month for the application process :-[

Id appreciate any your suggestions!

Yes, you can enter Canada in Feb with a valid SP and TRV.
