Can I request for T4 before I leave my employer?

Hi all,

So I am aware that I need to get ROE from my employer before I move. What about for T4? Should I also ask it from them before I leave or wait for them to file during tax month next year? I want to secure all documents from them before leaving them to avoid hassle in the near future. Thanks

T4s are only created once a year by companies. Usually in January or February of the following year. So I doubt they will be able to provide you with your T4 before you leave in the middle of the year. Most likely your T4 for this year will be mailed to you early next year.

I would think you are "allowed" to request it, it's just up to your employer as to whether they are willing to have one processed for you prior to them legally needing to supply it. There *may* be specific rules from CRA about not being able to supply one until the end of the tax year.
