Can I reenter Canada without physical study permit in hand?

Hi all,

I recently applied for renewal of my study permit (the old one was limited to the expiry date of my old passport). I was slightly late and my old study permit expired while the new one was still being processed, so I entered implied status. The new permit got approved a few days ago. Now I am waiting to get the physical copy of the permit (I mean the paper) by mail. However, I am supposed to fly home for Christmas in two days and do not expect the paper version to arrive by then.

My question: can I leave and reenter Canada as a student without carrying on me this paper version? Can they see in the system that I have a valid study permit?
Of course I can and will print all supporting documents: my old permit, a screenshot of the online portal showing my renewal has been approved, etc.

I hope you can give me some advice, I am sincerely worried and am considering canceling my flight for this reason.

In case it is relevant, I study in Quebec (Concordia university in Montreal).

Thank you so much!!

Hi

You don't need the study permit to enter Canada. You do need either an eTA or a TRV to fly to Canada.
