1. Do you have a valid TRV (visitor visa)? If so then you can re-admitted. If not, apply for a new one from one the US Canadian office. It can be done by mail.

Question:

I had a 6 month "handwritten" stamp in my passport (I am from the US) when I crossed into Canada last May 25. So, before the 25 of November, we applied for, and have since received an extension on my temporary resident status until August 20, 2010.

I am leaving Canada for a week to the US, -- but would be returning on July 19th.
Will my current visa be enough to help me get back in?
Should I try to extend it further before I leave (and pay the fee?), or, should I just pray they will let me in and maybe give me a new 6 months. This is all very confusing to me.

Are you a citizen of the US? If so you don't actually need a visa to enter Canada. Also if you were granted a Visitor Record then you can use that to re enter Canada if you are only exiting to the US. But you may not need to show it though.

May I leave, then re-enter Canada?

In order to return to Canada, you must be in possession of a valid passport or travel document. You also need to hold a valid study or work permit if you are returning to study or work in Canada.

If you are a citizen of a country that requires a temporary resident visa (TRV) to travel to Canada, you will also need to be in possession of a valid entry visa to return, unless:

* you are returning to Canada following a visit only to the United States or St-Pierre and Miquelon; and
* you return before the expiry of the period initially authorized for your entry or any extension to it, either as a visitor, student or worker.

I am a US Citizen. I have a Visitor Record in the back of my passport, which was issued to me on January 28, 2010, and is valid until Aug 20, 2010.
It says at the bottom This does Not Authorize Re-entry.

My question is -- if I go home for a visit to see my mother before August, is it likely that I'd be able to get back in without difficulty?

I don't you would have any difficulty if you're only exiting to the US.

as a US citizen, they will issue you a new authorization for 6 months at the time you re enter. When you exit, the extension becomes invalid. When you try to re enter, you will get a new 6 months from that date

(bump!)

Does the same apply if you are entering Canada, leaving, and returning from the UK?

I've got a LMO/work permit for a job but haven't started work yet; was hoping to go out now, come back to the UK for christmas and return in January. Would it be easier to just say I am starting work in January or could I definitely leave and return if I got the WP now?

Check the validity of your LMO/WP. If you're a citizen of the UK than you don't have to have a re-entry visa/TRV. But you have to ask for a letter or some form of a leave of absence from your employer.

i am currently in canada on visitor status and been travelling here very frequently, and now i'm due to travel back to denmark (i'm a danish citizen) but i've booked a flight out on november 30th (3 weeks later) to stay for 3 months visiting again - that wouldn't cause any trouble would it?
