Can I make changes on submitted application?

I submitted an application to extend my stay here in Canada arrived 06-07, allowed to stay until 12-07 submitted an app. to extend until 12-21. Can I change my extension date to 07-05-2018 if not can I submit a second application to extend my stay from 06-07-2017 to 07-05-2018? I am going back home in a few days and would like to return to Canada after a month. I read on the canada.ca website that I can go to US on implied status.

1. No, you would require a new application.
2. As a visitor in Canada, once you exit Canada that status ends, and when/if you return it is a a new admission.

I thought I can leave and then return if I am on implied status. But I guess I misunderstood it, I re-read it again and it says temporary worker and student in canada.
