Can I leave Canada while waiting for PR?

Hello
I got my express entry invitation, and applied on May 2017.
The process has been going well and its been already 6 months since and I'm expecting to get an answer soon.

The problem is that I'm visiting my family on Dec and coming back in late January 2018 and I understand CIC requests the passport when a PR application is approved, but what happens if I'm out of Canada at that moment and I can't send the passport to Ottawa?

You will typically have one month to send your passport, so as long as you do not leave the country for too long it should be fine. Also notice that if you are from a visa-exempt country, they will require only copy of your passport.

You will also need two photo ID (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/pr-card/apply-photos.asp), which you can do in advance.

Can we submit our passport to backhome embassy or is it necessary to submit in canada only if incase u get request when you are not in canada.
