Can I go onto welfare after sponsoring someone?

Hi,

I recently sponsored my partner to come to canada. However we are struggling to find work and need some kind of assistance. Is this allowed or do we need to wait for 3 years to pass?

You cannot go on welfare while sponsoring.

If it's within the first 3 years of your spouse landing and becoming a PR, you should expect that you may need to pay it back.
