Can I get PR if I get married as an International Student?

Hello,

I'm a third year university student on a study permit in Canada. Due to unfortunate situations, I won't be able to pay my hefty $24,000 tuition next year. It's worrying, because if I don't pay it off, I won't be able to renew my study permit which expires mid-summer of 2014.

I've been dating my girlfriend for about a year now, she is a citizen. If we get married by april, would I be able to get a permanent residence status soon after? and does that mean I'll able to get a ontario student loan for the 2014/15 school year.

A response would be greatly appreciated,
Ahmed

1. Nope. An "in Canada" spousal application will take about 22 months. An out of Canada, 28 days at Mississauga and the processing time for overseas offices is here: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/perm/fc-spouses.asp

The link provided by PMM is correct...however I dont think it ll take 22 months. Said that, there is no way you get PR in 6 months. Another question that arises is...is it marriage for convenience? (looks like it)...
You need to understand it is not easy to prove to an immigration officer that you are genuinely married in such a short period...even if you do get married and apply now.

I do genuinely like her, and I've been with her for a year now. We would eventually marry, but I was wondering if doing it early would benefit me in anyway as an International student? It's a challenge paying off the fees every year.

Why don't you think that it will take 22 months. Posted times are presently 11 months for 1st level approval, and 11 months for completion. Do you know something that nobody else knows?
