The COPR is one simple piece of paper with a photo attached in the corner. It is legal sized and won't fit in my file folder. Do you think it is ok if I fold it in half? I am so paranoid I am going to do something wrong or lose the documents, spill on them, etc. I just want landing over with!

I got my COPR when I completed my landing in Niagara Falls. The IO actually folded and stapled the COPR to my passport.

I was given mine in an envelope large enough to hold it unfolded, and I kept it that way until I got to the airport and landed. Once landing was completed, the IO folded it and placed it inside my passport.

Ya well oops I threw out the legal sized envelope. But I want all my documents in my file folder.

And stapled to your PASSPORT? How on earth do they do that?

So if they fold it I guess it is OK. But wouldn't want they want the original? There is a separate one that is for me. They used to do a carbon copy style COPR but now it is two separate pieces of paper. Very informal looking, printer paper.

Yes, you can fold it :)

And, since we're reduced to this - just be careful with his photo (they will use it for the PR card). And, yes, your copy will be folded and stapled into his passport after it is stamped. Once he gets his PR card, separate it out and put it in a safe deposit box - it's *the* proof that he landed as a PR for ever and ever.

Whew, thanks. I will be careful with the photo. They sent back like 6 extra photos which was a bit irritating because they were expensive. Should I have those in my document folder?

Can he apply for work IMMEDIATELY or does he have to wait for the PR card? Can he do OHIP, driver's license, SIN etc with the info that will be in the passport or does he have to wait? Thank you soooo much.

SIN he can do immediately with his passport and COPR. After that he's good to go for working, he doesn't need to wait for the PR card. Pretty much everything except healthcare can be done without the actual PR card (for ON anyways). I was able to get banking set up and get a driver's license also with passport and COPR.

Good to know. So basically everything but OHIP. He needs his PR card for OHIP. Too bad, that will make the 3 month wait even longer.

Hmmmm....he can apply for OHIP with the CoPR (no need for PR card). However, he will need proof of address (e.g., mailed bank statement). Just go to Service Ontario with the registration form and required forms.

The three months are calculated off of the arrival date so if it takes you a few days to get the evidence together it won't affect the 3 month wait period. You're good to go.

I have a lease agreement with his name on it - that will work for OHIP?

Good to know about the 3 month wait thanks.

So basically he can do everything right away except apply for work until he has a SIN?
