I'm waiting for my work visa and as soon as I get it I'm booking a flight to Calgary AB. I will be working there for AT LEAST a year, possibly 2. I was wondering if as a temporary worker I can enter Canada only with a 1-way ticket.

Thanks.

Hi Ben31,

In General, Yes, you can. I have made the experience, if you have a work permit, then you will have a job, so, you will have the funds to buy
yourself a ticket to fly back home. So far, nobody has ever asked me for a Return ticket.

But, i would check the conditions of your work permit! For example, the Working holiday Visa schemes need a return ticket, because they want to make sure that you find your way back home at then end of the term, and not staying "illegally". Just a "security thing".

I would recommend to take the latest bank statement with you just in case the question comes up, you can show that you have the funds to buy yourself one to get out.

Mostly you only need a Return ticket if you come with a tourist visa, which doesn't necessarily allow you to work.

Hope this helps,

regards,

Thank you for your comment. I don't remember the name.. I think it's called LMO visa.. definitely not working holidays. I've been told that I could work with it legally up to 2 years.

hi,

LMO visa, LMO (guess you know) stands for Labour Market Opinion, a document you need to get the actual work permit.
Yes, I had one of those before, too.

Yes, you can legally work for 2 years, but if I remember right, you have to mention this in the application, or at least the start/end date. As soon as the LMO is done, the date onthere is supposed to be fixed, cannot be changed anymore, and then you have to apply for the work permit withit.

I had a situation like that with my "Young Professional" work Permit. I didn't know, and "lost" 6 months.

Hi Ben,

If you will be working there for only one year then you only need one way ticket only not a return one.

Return ticket is only require for visitor visa or the visa valid for less than 6 months.
