Hi All,

I am eligible for applying PR in feb 2015 in CEC. So gearing up for getting indian PCC now . However my passport is expiring in mid nov 2015. Need expert advice on
1. Should I re issue my passport first and then apply for indian PCC?
2. Should I re issue my passport before I apply for PR?
3. As I also stayed in UK, should I apply for UK PCC after re issuing my passport?

Thanks for your advises..

@ Aarti

Since you are applying in Feb 2015 you will fall under new rule Express Entry as of now no one is clear about the process. So can't comment on that, however when it comes to PCC it is valid for 1 year so why you want hurry up on that.

I would suggest you to wait till Jan 2015 and understand the new process of EE and verify if you can get all required documents of the new process, and than proceed with PCC. Getting PCC is just matter of 2-3 weeks or 6 weeks time.

Also you may wait for other senior folks to reply and than action accordingly.

From what I heard from the BLS folks, passport needs to be within 6 months of expiry for a renewal. If this is not right, get your passport renewed first. Then wait for EE clarity to apply.

Suggestions for couple of questions are mentioned below :)

Passport can be renewed within 3 years before its current expiry date if the re-issue purpose is only its expiry date. For few other reasons like Names Changes/Corrections, update of spouse names, one can apply for re-issue of passport any time.

And to answer your subject line of the thread, no, first get the new passport and then apply for PCC. If you apply for a PCC before renewal of passport, you will still need to apply for PCC again after you receive the new Passport.

Passport renewal is separate with PR process , You can always do it when you reach or eligible to renew , You need to update concerned stakeholders of PR process which is of course CIC .

Rest I would not recommend to start collecting PCC as first it is not needed with the application at the time of filing ,second you first need to be chosen by CIC to apply as part of Express Entry . Once chosen you can start collecting PCCs as PCCs hav a validity period .
