If you are Indian citizen and having India passport, you CAN NOT post your passport. Please don't take a chance. If any of your friends going from Australia to India then send it with them.

Dear Friends,
With due respects to all the opinions in favour of sending by courier in the forum, Please do not send passports through any means whether Dhl /Fedex/ normal post.Any loss during transit you will not be able to get a new passport easily without producing police FIR . whether you inform the courier or not they scan the parcel before they courier. If you read the passport carefully it is mentioned that you are not supposed to post it.
"scan the courier package"... what kind of a scan is it that it shows the passport in the package of docuemnts?
i mean passport is not a metallic object which will show up in a scan.
agreed that if the courier package is opened by indian customs they will confisticate the passport.... but do they open each and every courier package?
anyone with personal experience please give your inputs.
Dear friends,,,,
I think its totally illegal to send passport to some other country through any means... One has to accompany with his or her passport....U can land in trouble....pls check properly with the authorities ....
thanks....
Its is illegal as per Passport Act, if you call any of the couriers like FedEx etc, they will say " Can only be mailed to embassy " - WHAT EMBASSY? no clue
2 users have been successful so far sending PP to India via mail
I am in the same position, I would prefer someone carrying it with authorization letter
