Can I come back to canada if my work permit is about to expire?

Hi everyone,
I graduated two years age(2014 april) in Canada and got my 3-years work permit. After that I came back to china and stay there until now.
My work permit is expiring in 2017/7/7 , so I am wondering can I still be able to enter canada merely using work permit?
If so. How long should I get back ahead of expire date of work permit?

ps: I heard that I can not enter Canada if my work permit is expiring in 6 months, not sure if it is true.

You still have quite a bit of time on your work permit. You won't face any problem.
