was wondering if I'm allowed to be self employed with a BOWP,

thanks

I would like to know that too

I believe you cannot, your SIN starts with '9' until you are a PR or a Citizen.

If you want to be self employed - meaning, incorporate yourself, it is not possible unless you become a PR or Citizen.

However, I am sure you know that you can work for any employer.

Good luck.

You can register as a self-employed individual but cannot incorporate a business on your own.
I am doing this: I registered for GST/HST so I can invoice my clients.

Edit: you can do this online...there will be a process similar to the "Coming to Canada Wizard", then they will issue your Business Number (BN) and GST#. After they mail a confirmation letter, the CRA will give you a call to talk about details. Doesn't matter if you're a Temporary Resident. The restrictions are for Partnerships/Corporations.

Yes, when you apply, they won't check whether your SIN starts with a 9 or not.

Also, you don't need to register/incorporate yourself if your expected annual earnings from your business is less than $30k. If you do, you need to charge clients GST.
Just go here for info:

^Yes!

The only restriction I have on my BoWP is on strip clubs, massage parlors, escort services...so there goes a few alternatives for me. It doesn't say anything about other jobs or how I go about doing these (employed or contractor).

Yeah my BOWP also stated that I can't do any job in the sex trade. I figured that was a loss of potential income ;D

It's an open work permit, so, yes.
