Can I apply to renew my PR card before 730 days in Canada?

1. Landed immigrant Sept 2009
2. Left Canada October 2009 (after 30 days)
3. Returned to Canada August 2010 (for 7 days)
4. Again came in Canada in August 2012 and still here
5. PR card will expire in October 2014
According to my calculation in July 20, 2014 I will complete 730 days (physically present in Canada including my 30 days in 2009 and 7days in 2010) as requirement to renew my PR card.

I would like to know that –
Can I apply to renew my PR card earlier on before July 20, 2014 (before completion of 730 days in Canada)? Because the application process will take about 90 days and in the mean time I will complete my 730 days in Canada in July 20, 2014.

Any suggestion will be highly appreciated.

Thank you.

Do not apply before you have reached a full 730 days. You really should 'pad' that number by a few days in case you were off. Most people say a pad of 10 days or so is pretty useful. I don't know for sure about that, but I do know if you sign and send that application before 730 days it will cause you all kinds of headaches.

Technically, you meet the RO if you still have time to complete 730 days in your first 5 years as a PR even though you haven't completed them already. However, Alurra71 is right in that your application will likely be put under scrutiny and take twice as long.

You will not be in any trouble if you let your PR card expire before applying because there is no law that says you must renew before or immediately upon expiry.

If it bothers you to be without a valid PR card for a while, just consider it the price you are paying for cutting it close with the RO.

I want to replace mine to get my name changed after I receive my first one. Is this going to be a problem?

No, that will not be a problem. Change your name and change your name on your passport and then show proof of both to change your PR card.
