welfare should only be used as a top up to any kind of income..I had NO family and 4 little mouths to feed and I did it. I was not able to be a struggling student because I HAD TO WORK. So can others. I agree sometimes it is necessary, but not for married ppl. Sorry I should have clarified that. 2 able bodied ppl must be able to work it out..disability is a complete other issue, if you legitimatly cannot work then by all means I would expect the government to help of course! I live in Toronto and right now my employer is looking to hire more staff, jobs are not hard to find, only the higher ranking jobs are...and I am just saying, if its a desperate situation, there ARE jobs out there for everyone!

Hi,
Sadly there is only two options. You apply for assistance, or get part time job. I suggest that perhaps getting part time for evening hours, and on call for daytime if possible. Either case, I would suggest you avoid assistance for the next 3 years atleast.

I belive you should get a job, if you can not due to you having a baby your husband should. Or work shifts when he is out for work you can look after the baby when you are out for work he can look after. Many families working like that so why can't you?

try to understand,if she was like that she would,nt ask from you , the advises,rather then go on...........

If you sponsored a person and he applied for welfare, you (the sponsor) is responsible in repaying the social benefits.

I already replied to the pm love bird sent me but I will say it again. Sponsors are disqualified from sponsoring if they are on welfare, plus if you take welfare as a sponsored person the sponsor has to pay it back. All I was trying to convey was that the consequence is not worth it, further more welfare IS NOT for MARRIED PPL. I do not believe in that at all. You messaged me that welfare is for ppl "like these, with small children" No it's not, it is NOT supposed to be for ppl who are sponsored OR sponsors, it is NOT supposed to be for otherwise healthy adults who are able to work, and it it NOT specifically for ppl with "small kids" as you put it. I believe I have more than explained how I feel, so who dont like it sorry for them. I do not support laziness if it can be helped.

Unless you have entered Canada because your life is in danger in your home country, you are NOT entitled to rape the welfare system. If you can't afford to support your spouse in Canada, then please don't be a sponsor.

I recently bumped into a Moldovan couple who somehow managed to immigrate to Canada under a skilled category ( computer programmer ). He could barely speak a word of english. How he managed to qualify under the point system is beyond me. The first thing he did was spend his only cash and bought himself a car. After which, he applied for welfare for his wife, baby, and self. I couldn't believe that he actually thought this was ok. In fact, he was proud of himself.

There is a lot of abuse in the immigration system and those of you who are sincere and well-intentioned pay a big price for this abuse.

I agree with you guys! I don't get why some ppl can't get out there and find a job. I was a single mother of 3 kids!! Since they are small does that mean I don't have to work and I can jus go on welfare?!?! Hell no!! I opened up my own business and I went to college and graduated. There is work out there for ppl who want it. But they don't!!! Ugh

Mrs Proper, I know a single mum who has two jobs and not asking help from wellfare! After I have seen her how hard she was working I do not have any sempathy for people who are asking whether they should go on wellfare. YOu have a husband for god sake! You both can work shifts and can make it. But of course it is difficult and who wants to pick the difficult way? YOu just go on wellfare simple. I wonder what you have contributed and have face to ask help!!! from them? The mentioned single mum was too proud to go on wellfare. In fact we were asking her to apply for some benefits but she didn't. She said that there are people who are in real need. I respect her. I wish everyone was thinking like her.

I have heard that some people are milking the system already. If I know anyone doing this I will report them immidiately! People who are working hard to put food on the table aren't stupid to look after you and your husband and your kid/s so that you can have fun and be with your family! Shame on you!!!
