Can I apply PR only for me?

Hi:

I need you people advice on my PR application. I am married and have a son.

I would like to apply for PR on Canadian experience class. However I am not sure I'll stay long or not. Hence I would like to apply only for me. In future If I wish to stay long, I would apply for my spouse and my son. This is just to save some money.

But I am not sure, if I apply only for me, will it affect my chances of getting PR approval?

Please advise me.

Siva

You can surely just apply for yourself but you have to add all the information about your wife and son in the application and your spouse has to fill the forms as well, whether she wants to accompany you or not.
If you would like to sponsor them later, you have to make sure their info is added in your file!

2 things sivakumargk..........

1) And I may be wrong but as far as I am aware, even if you dont want your family members accompanying you, you still have to pay for processing their files. You dont have to pay for their RPRF (if you do get it) but you have to pay $550 (for your wife) + $150 (for your son). So your theory that it will save you money has just flown out of the door.

Now, you also have the option to not declare them (if you want and wish to save money) but that is MISREPRESENTATION and you will be in DEEP shit when it is discovered. Please note I have used the word "when" and not "if", because I really believe that it will be discovered, its just a question of when its discovered.

2) If you have not made up your mind to emigrate, why do you want to apply and clog up the system? I am sure there are many applicants like you who only apply because they can/want to. This clogs up the system (more applications to process, more applications to research) and causes delay for many people who actually want to emigrate and have a lot depending on this. I would highly recommend that first you should make up your mind as to what you want to do before applying. Only if you are 100% sure that you want to come to Canada, should you apply. This is not a joke. for many people this is their life - for you it seems that this is not a big thing as you have options.

I dont mean to offend you but I dont understand why people think that PR application is a trial room where one can come and try things out and, if it doesnt fit them, they will return it back. A "friend" of mine is doing the same thing - needless to say we've had many discussions regarding this.

Hi:

Thanks for your time to answer my doubt. I think you misunderstood my question. First off all, I don't want to hide any information from immigration officer. I would mention about my family details, however I would like to apply PR only for me.

And one more thing, I am not understanding how it affects the processing time of others. I would like to stay more in Canada, but due to some situation sometime it might be tough to decide now.

Sorry to say but you are wrong! You do not have to pay the fees if you do not want them to accompany you right now! If you have included them in the family information thn you can sponsor them later in time if you want. You do not have to pay $550 and $150 for your wife and son if they are not coming with you right now!

I can say this because I added my spouse to my application in April and they asked me to send his forms and marriage certificate etc and $550 ONLY IF my spouse plans to accompany me to Canada!

I am surprised when you say this.

$550 is "processing" fee and if they have told you that you dont need to pay it, then it means that they are "processing" your spouse for FREE - which is highly improbable. If your spouse is in your family information - did you not send in his/her birth cert, did he/she not fill background declaration, supplementary info, police certificates etc?????

Whoever is in the family info and not a canadian citizen or PR - spouse and child - will have to go through a criminality check, admissibility check etc. I dont think that the visa officer is going to do all that work for free.

You dont have to pay their RPRF fees - $490 - if they are not accompanying you but, as far as I am aware you HAVE to pay the processing fee.

If you have not paid it till date, dont worry, sooner or later they will ask you for it ;D

Hi sivakumargk

Like i had said before, my intention was not to offend you......

1) Please read the guide 5609 - Step 3 pay the fees and give special attention to the note that indicates that your application will only be processed after receipt of complete fees. If you declare your family on the form, you HAVE to submit all their documents which will have to be processed to ensure admissibility. This is the reason why $550 and $150 are used. You will have to pay $1250 for processing your complete application - you, your wife and your son.

If they are not accompanying you, you have the choice not to pay $490 for your wife (dependent children below 22 yrs do not have to pay RPRF). So essentially you are saving only $490 if you do not bring your wife and son.

Oh! and 1 more thing - if your wife and son are on the application, you also HAVE to do medicals for them; thats additional costs. I dont believe that you can get out of that costs too by claiming that they are not accompanying you to Canada and hence, should not undergo medical tests.

The only way you can get out of application processing fee and medicals and admissibility is if your child is born in Canada. Then you only have to include the child in your family information form and provide proof of birth but no processing will be done for that child and hence, no costs.

2) For the 2nd point I made, if you send your application in and have no/little intention to stay in Canada, the way it affects the processing times is - suppose there are 100 people out there that have no/little intention to stay here but apply for PR because they can. VO's that could be processing other applications (people who really want to emigrate) will spend time processing applications that have no/little intentions. A VO cannot identify an applicant's intention - according to them anyone that applies is interested. So a VO spends, say, 8 months on your application and then you decide not to move - is that fair for the person who actually wants to move but was delayed because of such application(s) and had to spend money to apply for BOWP and LMO extensions etc?

This is what the email from CPP-Ottawa said when I told them about my change in marital status:

"On receipt of these documents, your spouse will be added to your application as a non-accompanying dependant, and medical forms and instructions will be sent to you, in due course.

If your spouse intends to accompany you to Canada, you must pay the processing fee of 550.00 CAD for your spouse’s application."
