Hi,

I will be attending a 4 month course at a college in canada and clearly I am not eligible for a study permit as the course duration has to be 6 months or greater. If i receive a job offer can I apply for a work permit from within Canada?

Thanks

A job offer isn't enough. Your employer will also need to obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion (LMO). It tends to be very difficult to find employers who are willing to go through the LMO process. Also, you should note that LMOs are not currently being issued for jobs in the food services industry.

I am a post-graduate as well (MBA). Will this increase my chances of getting a job offer?
It might or it might not. Generally it's just very difficult to find an employer willing to go through the LMO process.

I have received a letter of acceptance from a private college for a diploma with a duration of 4 months. The college has a DLI number and is registered as well on the CIC website. Can I apply for a study permit?

You should apply for a visitor visa. Study permits are for courses that are longer than six months.

The website also states that under certain conditions I can apply for a study permit even though my course is for a shorter duration i.e if I inted to pursue a course after completing the current course that I am enrolled for. My college even has a DLI number and features in the designated learning institutions list on the CIC website. Can I still apply for a study permit. The below information is on the website.

Generally, foreign nationals must obtain a study permit in order to study in Canada.

However, foreign nationals may be exempted from requiring a study permit in the following situations:

Short-term courses of six months or less;
Family members or private staff accompanying a foreign representative accredited by the Department of Foreign Affairs, Trade and Development Canada;
Members of the armed forces of a country designated for the purposes of the Visiting Forces Act.
Note: If your program of study is six months or less but you intend to continue your studies in another program, you should apply for a study permit before coming to Canada. This allows you to apply to extend your stay as a student from within Canada. Otherwise, you will have to apply for a study permit from outside of Canada.

You can certainly try. Make sure you apply well in advance in case your study permit is refused and you're told to apply for a visitor visa instead.
