Can I apply for a TRV outside Canada while I'm still in Canada?

Hey everyone,

So I'm wondering if I can submit an online application for a TRV to a visa office outside Canada (Pakistan in my case) while I'm still here in Canada. I know it's technically possible, but just wanted to figure out if this would result in any hiccups or issues with the process because I'm not sure if this would cause any issues?

Basically, I'm supposed to be traveling on 30th November and I've an application for the extension of my work permit currently under processing.

My current work permit expires in Dec 2018 and I'm returning to Canada in Jan 2019. So I have to wait for my renewed work permit to return before I can apply for a TRV in Canada that will be valid beyond Jan 2019.

As my work permit extension application is still under processing, I'm starting to get worried that I won't have enough time to complete the process for a TRV application in Canada.

So I want to start an online application for a TRV in Pakistan as soon as I get my work permit so that even if the processing takes a while (currently the website shows 35 days), I'll have my visa before Jan 2019.

Would anyone have an idea about this?

Also I'm wondering would it be alright if I start applications for TRV for both inside and outside Canada at the same time (just to see if I can get my visa inside Canada before 30 nov)? Or will that cause issues?

Any help would be much appreciated as I'm in a very tricky situation now. Thanks so much!

As far as I know, you do not have to wait for one application to complete before submitting another. I believe you can apply for a new TRV while awaiting the outcome of your work permit.

Since I'm applying for the TRV on the basis of my work permit, they'll only issue it until the expiry of my work permit. Since my current one expires in Dec 2018 and I'm returning Jan 2019, I'll have to wait for the renewed work permit to apply to get the visa validity for my purpose.

Submitting two TRV applications simultaneously is not the right thing to do. Also, even if you do submit two TRV applications, it is IRCC's prerogative to decide whether or not to accept the second application.

You need a TRV when you return. It would be best to wait for your work permit extension before you apply for a TRV
