Hello,
I posted some question yesterday and I have a new one, again :)
So i´m a canadian citizen living abroad with my husband and our 2 kids. I want to sponsor my husband. However, right now, the citizenship application for our baby is in process, it might take 9 more months.
So I assume, I should first wait for my baby to get his citizenship BEFORE I send application for my husband´s PR? Otherwise, may baby would be considered a dependant child, is that correct?

You can apply to sponsor your husband now. Your baby can never be sponsored for PR because it is already a citizen. You just need the citizenship card to prove it. If you are looking to travel before you get the citizenship card for the baby, you can ask the embassy to give you a temporary passport for the baby.

Hi, my husband and I are going through the exact same predicament. Thanks Leon, you helped us before and got us on the right track. So what we are planning now is to apply for PR for me with my husband as the sponsor and at the same time apply for the citizenship for our son (20 months old). The issue we're worried about is if my PR arrives before my son's citizenship, the validity of the PR might run out. We'd have to re-apply for the PR. So we're thinking that we need to apply for a limited validity passport at the same time as applying for the citizenship. We don't have immediate travel plans, our plan is to leave when I get the PR. He is almost two years old and I understand we can't get a limited validity passport after that. I wonder if anybody has also done something similar and what the outcome was?

After he turns two, you can get some other type of travel document for him. Ask the embassy.

Between 2 & 18 CHC/CIC will issue a facilitation visa. http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2009/ob154.asp

Thank you!! That's excellent news. By my understanding of the bulletin it appears that we can apply to get the F-1 visa if my permanent residence visa is issued and we haven't got my son's citizenship certificate yet. Fantastic. This forum has been so helpful Leon and PMM.

Your child already is a citizen, he doesn't need any PR. You can apply for your husband's PR anytime.

She knows that. Leon and PMM already answered her questions.
