I'm a US resident living with my American hubby in NY. I am moving back to Canada before the end of the year so I am eligible for a job in my field come January 2011 (long story, but the gist of it is I need to regain my Ontario residency before Dec. 31st 2010).
We still need to sell our house in NY, however. (It is in my husband's name only.) Plus, I'll need some time to get settled in my new job, and find an apartment for us in Toronto. Basically, we don't want to "activate" hubby's permanent residency status right away -- we want to wait until the new year (until I find a job and/or when we sell our NY house).
Question 1: Hubby's PPR was approved today. ("Decision Made" on ecas.) When they request his passport, how long will he have to send it in to be stamped? (Is it 90 days?) We are going to a wedding reception in Toronto on Nov. 13th and we'd like to send it in after that trip, if possible.
Question 2: After his passport is stamped, will he be able to visit me in Canada without "activating" it? He is going to drive me and my stuff to Ontario in December so I can re-establish my Ont. residency, but he will not be ready to immigrate by then (and I know he has until 1-year from the date of his medical, which is July 7th.). Has anyone successfully crossed with the PPR stamp in their passport without "activating" it? Is that allowed?
Thanks for any information or advice!
