Can Foreclosure/Unpaid Debts Hamper Canada Immigration?

My dear friend is currently going through foreclosure in the US. She is trying to sell her house in a short sale. If that does not work she will be foreclosed upon. Will that hurt her chances of getting her PR in Canada? Also will any unpaid debt in the US, such as a possible deficiency judgement, hurt her chances of moving to Canada? Does Canada look at credit ratings in foreign countries? Except for her foreclosure problem she has no debts. Please advise someone.

her credit report once she's in canada

Applying for PR, unless she has arranged a job, she will have to show funds to support herself, starting from $10,000. That could be a problem to do if she's bancrupt.

From my point of view and knowledge (not that much) on this matters, I think you only need to provide with a bank statement from the last 3 or 4 months to show that you have the money on hand ,so you can support your self, if you sell or not the house the Canadian government doesn't care, but if you want to star credit history in Canada the banks or other companies can check your credit report from US and give you a hard time or good rates that depends.

If somebody can confirm this please!

Have a great day!!

This poor woman is desparate to leave the US. (We all are!) She just wants to make sure that her credit history will not affect her immigration process.

It shouldn't affect it. She just has to show that she has however much money in the bank or in other assets. If she hasn't gotten foreclosed on yet, she could use an estimate of the value of her house as well as the deed in her name.

I'm in the "almost" same boat, I'm not on foreclosure but I'm selling the house, but right now is a dead market, but still I don't have my AOR from the Canadian Government yet, so in the mean time I'm selling everything, on e-Bay, Craig list, Garage Sales, you named, and so far I'm getting good money that goes direct to a savings account, and I'm not touching that money at all, I'm focus that I'm leaving here some day in the future, my time is not coming yet, but it will be.

Good luck to you!

Peace!
