Can ex-employee give referral letter for my ex-company?

Hi,

Need your help guys !!


I left Infosys 4 years back. And since then, most of my friends have left the company too. And others whom I know are in US on H1 visa.
So, my question is --- Can a person who had also worked in Infosys during my work tenure, refer me on referral/experience letter?

Do they not have a HR department to write a letter?

You could ask HR to submit a 'facts' letter (start date, end date, salary) if they won't list duties. Try and get a supervisor there to list a duties letter (both of these on the same letter headed paper would be perfect). Then maybe a signed affidavit from your friends stating they knew you worked there at this time, but unless they had authority over you I doubt their confirmation of your duties will cut it.

Remember, you have to prove you worked there and that you did what you claimed (matching the NOC code as best as possible). If you were in someone elses position while they were trying to prove work experience, what would you accept as proof?

I already have relieving letter describing my date of joining and leaving and last held role. Thats all.

But they do not provide any roles/responsibilities letter.

Is there ANYONE there that can write one? Any supervisor? Does the company have a record of your work contract which would list your duties? Can you request that?

I just don't want you to submit anything that looks a bit off.

The person used to work in the same company as mine. So hes willing to write for me. But i dont know anybody whos currently working there.

And the ones who dont know me, why they would bother to give me reference even on my request?

Well could you get your ex supervisor to write to their replacement supervisor and ask them to write the letter with the details? It's not a great work around but getting your 'mate you once knew there' to write a letter really doesn't look good.

Do you not have a contract with job specs?

No I dont think so, Its mentioned in the offer letter.

Just remember you need legitimate proof.

I've got a couple of jobs I could claim for but I may only be able to get letters from old friends - one job the company has gone under and I have no proof other than a tax return.

Just try and make it all as official as possible and within the company. There should be a record of you working there, especially if you write to them with the letter you got from HR with your contract details. Draft up a letter and ask they just sign and return it.

I was in a similar situation. I got a letter for my previous company from my ex-supervisor, who also wasn't working for the company at the time the letter was written. I already have COPR, so it worked. My letter was notarized and contained all info as per the requirements. Keep in mind that the letter was signed by my ex-supervisor, so I can't vouch for whether a letter from a colleague that wasn't your manager would work.

Hey, I worked with Infy before and they denied me roles and responsibilities letter. As per policy they don't issue it. In this situation, I asked one of my colleagues who used to work with me in Infy to give me a roles and responsibilities reference letter on plain paper and I got that notarized later on. When I sent my OINP application, I attached this letter given by my colleague and the email from Infy HR that they do not issue R&R letter. This worked for me and I was nominated by Saskatchewan.

The colleague whom I asked for this letter is not working with Infy currently. He joined Infy 5 days before I joined Infy and his last working day was after I left Infy. Therefore it worked for me. I believe you are in a similar situation. Only difference is that in your case the person who is willing to give you letter left Infy while you are still working with them.

In your case what I will suggest is that you take a letter from him and for this letter your experience will be counted till his last working day. Example - If his last working day was 31st August 2016 and he joined before you then your experience will be counted from your date of joining till his last working day because that person was aware of your job duties till his last day. For the remaining tenure try to take same letter on plain paper from some existing colleague. This is a tricky situation and I can help you more if we can discuss over a call. Is there someone else doing what used to be your job? Maybe you can have that person's supervisor write a letter with the duties of the position, since basically those were your duties.

I'm fairly certain it doesn't work like that.
If IRCC verifies the reference, they will phone the person who wrote the letter and ask "did you observe Upinderkaur performing these tasks ?"
