Can apply for Canada and USA?

Can I apply for Canada VISA and USA VISA at the same time?

Actually I dont want to waste my time ... Dont want to get into a situation where my VISA gets declined for Canada and than i apply for USA..

Please suggest...

Don't forget information is already shared between Canada and the USA.
In fact right now (in yesterdays news) both countries are looking at developing a much more integrated system.
