Can an applicant change their name mid-way through the sponsorship process? I understand that if you legally change your name after receiving your PR (wife wants to take on husband's last name for example) you have to apply for a new PR card and submit proof of new name change.

What about mid-way through the sponsorship process? I imagine that as long as you update the information before application is finalized, this would not be an issue but this is just an assumption. Seems easier than waiting until after PR and then applying for a whole new card...

the principal applicant can change their surname before the PR visa is issued.....send a letter with supporting documents to proof surname change through IRCC webform to your visa office.

if the principal applicant has a new travel passport with the new surname, you may send a copy of the passport data page through IRCC webform.
