Can a Worker under OWP be the Principal Applicant for CEC Application?

Hi! Just want to ask: Does a holder of SPOUSAL OPEN WORK PERMIT (who also got a job under NOC A, B or O) qualify to be the PRINCIPAL APPLICANT for Canadian Experience Class PR Application? We’d like to assess whether my hubby or me will apply in the future.... considering IELTS requirements, etc...

I know of no reason why a spouse on an open work permit can not be the principal applicant for CEC. Work experience through open post-grad work permits is allowed.

The IELTS requirements are not as high if you are NOC B as they are when you are NOC 0 or A.

Hi karleluja. My hubby's the principal applicant for our CEC application. His application's almost complete, just waiting for the PP return with COPR.

A year ago I called the CIC Call Centre twice and inquired of this concern, and the agents told me that OWP holders are also eligible to apply as principal applicants for as long they meet the criteria of the program. If you are both eligible, it's just a matter of considering/deciding on who is more qualified and will likely get the other requirements done at hand.
