Can a visitor leave Canada for a vacation and come back to Canada after that?

Hi everyone, a bit of an odd question:

I'm a resident in Canada and my parents (from Italy) are thinking of coming to visit me.
During their stay, we'd like to book a one-week trip to the Caribbean.
Would they be allowed to leave Canada and re-enter 7 days later, and then go back to Italy at the end of their holiday? Of course they'd always have the flights tickets to show at customs, but is it allowed?

Anyone ever did this before?

Cheers,
Rob

When they go out of the country that is it for their visit.

When coming back they will be reassessed by the CBSA officer as if it was a new visit.

Not an unusual travel pattern for those visiting Canada to go to the US/Caribbean and return. What matters is how long you've been in Canada before your 'side trip' and how long you intend to be in Canada when you return from your 'side trip'. CBSA want to make sure you are a bona fide tourist not one not doing border runs where you almost max out the typical 6 month entry granted on initial admission leave Canada for a few days and return aiming for a fresh 6 month entry. Your parents should be ok but entry will be assessed afresh by CBSA.

Thank you for your answers.

What I found weird though, is that when I went to Cuba earlier this year, at check-in (on my way to Cuba) the flight attendant wanted to see my PR card. Same thing when I landed in Cuba, the Customs Officer asked to see my PR card (which I found odd)
My parents don't have a PR card of course, what would have happen?

Why is it weird? The airline needs to be sure you won't get rejected for missing proper documentation when arriving abroad....

That said I find it odd that they requested your PR... how did they know you had one? I would think they asked for your travel document (PR, TRV, etc.) and you handed them your PR. Your parents would be requested their travel document (TRV), but if they are from a visa exempt country they would only need to hand in their passport for revision.

As far as Cuban immigration goes you will have to ask them. Nonetheless I would find it odd all visitors coming from Canada would have to show PRs for entering the country. They are a common tourist destination who would have this figured out by now.

In both cases (at check-in and Cuban customs), after seeing my Italian passport and realizing that I wasn't Canadian, they asked me if I was a Canadian resident and to show them my PR card. That's what threw me off, and raised the question about my parents. Like if they would have denied them to board?

Thanks for your help

Really? That is odd. Nonethless as it is on your way out and into Cuba you would have to ask about Cuban immigration.

Best of lucks!

Dear All,

I am living in Toronto as a Protected person since September 2013. My PR is under process but I have my Canadian Refugee Travel Document (issued by Canada passport) and the letter of decision which proofs that the government of Canada has given me protection in Canada and lets me stay here. I applied for my PR in January 2014 but still there is no news. I do not know when I will have my PR .

My wife is a PR and has her Travel Document as well and my son is a Canadian Citizen.

I booked a package for a week vacation holiday to Cuba and I paid $ 2,100.00 CA but now my friends are telling me that there will a problem for me to go with Canadian Travel Document because they won't let me onboard the plane.

please let me know if any of you have any information about this.

Thanks,

Jahed
