Can a three year gap while in Canada negatively effect my application?

Hi guys,

I want to apply for skilled immigration via express entry after I graduated in Canada from a 2 year Diploma, I received a work permit valid for three years. I did work at some decent on the paper jobs while I was in Canada but most of the time I worked as a pizza delivery driver there and my salary was paid in cash (without taxes). I didn't knew at that time if that was a good or bad thing.

I want to know that now if I apply for express entry from my home country and in my background history I don't mention that job and just mention "unemployed" during the time of around 2-5 to three years, will that create any issues for my file? Will that delay my background check or would that not be a big deal? Please let me know.

You committed tax fraud and are now asking advice about how to commit immigration fraud. You aren't going to find a lot of people willing to help you....

Lol how many pizza delivery drivers do you know get paid via SIN card? I'm not asking for immigration fraud, I'm just asking what should I write in the history and if it will be objectionable. Don't use big words like "fraud" when you don't know what you're talking about.

It is tax fraud - there's no question of that. All tips and cash earnings are required to be declared in your income tax return. Granted, not everyone does that - but many do declare cash earning and pay tax on them like they're supposed to. Those who fail to declare are committing tax fraud - that part is black and white.

To answer your question about your application... I think it might seem odd to CIC that you lived in Canada for three years while doing nothing. They would wonder how you supported yourself.

Plus I never earned enough to have to pay taxes anyways!
In that case there's no issue with being honest and declaring that you worked as a pizza delivery guy. I would not say you were unemployed when you weren't.

Hi Scylla,

I filed my taxes every year but I was never was required to pay anything anyways. But yes I didn't declare that I was working as a pizza delivery driver because I didn't earn much at all. And in between jobs, my parents supported me. So what should I do now? I'm working at a decent job now since returning to my country and have all the documentary evidence for that. Would they dig into my past and create a problem because of this?

Thanks

Also do they check with the CRA as well?

To be perfectly honest, I didn't understood the complexities of Canadian tax system at that time, plus I wasn't really that happy as I was not able to get a job in my field of studies so probably I didn't made the right move. But either way, not that I'm more settled and have a better job, what are the prospects of my application being successful if I mention everything in detail.

It is not that easy to answer. Even if you got cash, your company could claim the money which they paid for you. Under a certain amount they do not need your SIN number, only your name is enough.in that case the CRA has information you were paid. If your company have ever asked your SIN there is a big chance that they claim the amount was paid. Go to your CRA online account and check.
I do not have idea that CIC will check anything with CRA.
You could make tax return now and you could claim the money also, without issue.( you wrote the amount you earned did not reached the taxable minimum,so you do not own money for CRA,so it is not a big issue correcting your tax return)
