Can a spouse be a Representative?

Hi there,
I am sponsoring my spouse inland, I am a canadian citizen. I have completed all, if not most of the paperwork because my husband's English is poor.
In the section of the Background / Declaration form, where it states have you used an interpreter?
Can I be authorized to fill this out to be his interpreter?
If I am do I use the Use of a Representative Form?

Yup. I am sponsoring my husband and I am his representative. Just make sure to fill out the appropriate Representative Form.

I also included my email address in the file so they forward all correspondence to me.

It is a good idea to add your spouse as representative in the PR sponsorship application. If the spouse is not included, CIC will respond to the sponsor only up to the AIP stage. Once AIP stage has been reached, CIC will only correspond with the applicant and the sponsor will be 100% left out of the loop.

Are you even using the right form IMM5476? I don't see anywhere on the form about being interpreter.

Section A is for the applicant's name

Section B is for the spouse's name

Section C doesn't apply since you are not revoking representative.

Section D: you sign your name and date.

A representative is not the same thing as an interpreter. According to CIC, "A representative is someone who has provided advice, consultation, or guidance to you at any stage of the immigration application process, or in an immigration proceeding. If someone represented or advised you to help you submit your application, then that person is your representative. A representative is also someone who has your permission to conduct business on your behalf of Citizenship and Immigration Canada (CIC) and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA)." Family members CAN be representatives.

For the form you are asking (IMM5490), CIC says: "This section must be completed by an interpreter if one assisted you in the preparation of this form.

The interpreter must read the declaration, then print their name and the language in block letters and proceed by signing and dating the form."

It does not specify if interpreters can be family members. It does say however that "Translations by family members are not acceptable for translating documents.

In your case, I think you can write your name as your husband's interpreter. And add yourself as his representative too, on form IMM5476 - http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5476E.pdf
