I read the case of the second link, the OP mentioned he applied for a 'dependent visa'.. not sure what that is, but doesn't seem like a TRV. In any case, he didn't mention that his wife got a longer than 6 months validity at the POE.

In the same link, user msnnpr stated that his spouse got a TRV with a 6 month validity.

I don't see anyone on that query stating the claim you are making.
In the first link, he posted
My wife came to canada in Dec 2013 and received a visitor record at airport immigration allowing her to stay till Oct 2015
He posted on January 16, 2014 so his wife got at least 1 year and 10 months.

In the second link, that "dependent visa" is very likely to be a TRV since he is looking for a way for his wife to apply for an open work permit. He mentioned this later in the post:
i think its visitor visa but you also have to send the copy of your work permit and marriage certificate.
In the OP, he said that:
when she landed to toronto airport, she was given a letter looks like work permit but it says " prohibited from engaging emplyment in canada" ?? its also says that " Joining spouse in canada"
which sounds like a visitor record

lavalava321 confirms my suspicion:
i think ur wife has been given a visitor record. u can still apply for her wp.
vin98 also:
Hi All..Same case with my wife as well .. Even though i have valid work permit but She got VISA but no work permit
Lastly, for msnnpr's quote, I wasn't sure what happens. But I will keep in mind that it could happen to my case too.

Based on all of these discussions, I think this page summarize it best:

http://quic.queensu.ca/international-students-and-staff/spouses-partners-and-families/#Immigration_Status_in_Canada

The accompanying family of an international student or worker (ie. spouse, partner and/or children), is eligible to stay in Canada as long as the student continues to have legal status.
In some cases, family members will be given status for the same period of time as the international student or worker when they arrive in Canada (through a stamp in their passport, a visitor record, or other temporary resident document). Sometimes, they will only be given 6 months of status in Canada and they will need to apply to extend their status after arriving at Queen’s.
So the rule is not really set in the stone.

Hello everyone,

I will be working in Canada soon. I will be applying for the w-1 visa and a work permit based on my LMIA document.

However, I have a question regarding my wife. She already has a visitor (v-1) visa. If she does not want an open work permit, does she need to apply for any other visa to accompany me to Canada?

In other words, can she stay for more than 6 months when entering Canada with her v-1 visa, accompanying me who has a work permit?

Thank you very much!
I am answering my own question as a reference for someone who might be in my situation in the future.

My wife can indeed accompany me with her visitor (V-1) visa. Upon arrival, after the immigration officer confirmed our spousal relationship, he issued the visitor record to my wife, allowing her to stay in Canada until my work permit expires (which is similar to the report from mysteryocean here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/wife-got-visa-but-no-work-permit-please-help-t102794.0.html and Gurindar here: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/open-work-permit-for-spouse-visitor-visa-dependant-t181555.0.html)

Also, it is worth noting the wrong information here

She cannot have two valid TRVs so any further TRV application would be denied.
I currently hold two valid TRVs. One is B-1 (Business Visitor) and another is W-1 (Worker).
