Hello everyone,

I am sponsoring my mother and my sister to immigrate to Canada. I had sent in my application to the Case Processing Center (CPC) in Mississauga in February 2011. My mother is the principal applicant. She is still married with my father but he didn’t want to come at that time. So I have put down his name on the application form as a "Non-Accompanying Family Members" and reported enough income accordingly on the Financial Evaluation form.

My application is still sitting at the CPC in Mississauga and waiting to be opened and processed. But now my father has changed his mind and he wants to come with my mother again. So can I write a letter to CPC in Mississauga and ask them to change my father’s status from non-accompanying family members to be the accompanying spouse of my mother? Will I have to cancel my original application and apply again following the new requirements of sponsoring parents after it was re-opened in January 2014?

Thanks in advance for the reply.

Hi

Yes, you can change your father from non-accompanying to accompanying.

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/op/op02-eng.pdf

7.7 - What to do if a family member is added to an application during processing?

New family members must be added and non-accompanying family members can become accompanying family members on an application of a person applying in the family class during the processing of an application.

Thank you, canuck_in_uk.

I have one more question: will my application be processed based on the old standard and low income cut-off? I am only making barely enough income each year to sponsor my parents and my borther. If CIC goes by the new standard after they re-open the parents sponsorship this year, my income will not qualify for that.

Thank you again for the reply.

You should start a new thread to ask. I'm not that familiar with parent/grandparent sponsorship.
