Hi there,

I am landing on the first week of April, just wanted to make sure. Can we travel to the USA as a Canadian PR? Any particular documentation which is required? How does the option of Working and Staying in the USA apply to a Canadian immigrant or citizen, since this seems to be one of the major considerations while a person has to choose his destination of immigration as Canada.

Thanks.

Having Canadian PR does not allow you to automatically visit the US or work in the US.

Whether you will need a US visa to visit the US will depend on the passport you hold. If you required a US visa to visit the US before you received Canadian PR - then you will still require a US visa to visit now.

You will need to obtain a US work permit in order to work in the US. Getting Canadian PR has no impact.

Does that change, if we are Canadian citizens? Would that still mean, we need American Visa and a Work Permit to work in the US?

Once you become a Canadian citizen, you will be able to visit the US without a visa.

However becoming a Canadian citizen doesn't change anything for working in the US. The US and Canada are two completely separate countries. If you want to work in the US then you'll need a work permit - even as a Canadian citizen.

And just to add... if you are only getting PR now, you are most likely a good 5+ years away from actually getting Canadian citizenship.

Nice to know how much you appreciate Canadian PR

You will not be able to legally work in the US with anything Canadian. Canada and the US are DIFFERENT countries and immigration in one does not give you any rights to legally work in the other.

As a Canadian PR you will have to apply for a visa to visiit USA (and I assume you are not from a visa exempt country). The chances of them giving a visa to a Canadian PR who has just "landed" and not yet established themselves in Canada are close to zero. Once you become a Canadian citizen (in a min of 5 years if not more) than you are entitled to visa free travel to the US. Note that this, however, does not give you any right to work legally in the US.
