Hello everyone, I've been asking this question for a while now because I seem to be getting multiple different responses. My family was first under the impression that the child could travel to Canada from Pakistan with her Canadian passport and Pakistan birth certificate without her own Pakistani travel documents because the mother has a Pakistani passport. Then a few members on this forum informed me that the child will need her own Pakistan travel documents (either NICOP or Passport) in order to leave Pakistan. Thus I went to work right away trying to get a Pakistani passport for the child but then we found out that her father's NICOp is expired which is needed for passport application and we applied for it right away. It was supposed to be ready in 6 weeks but it's nearing the 8th week and there are no updates, which means that the child's passport application has been on hold this whole time.

Her mom recently received PPR and we would like them both to travel as soon as she is given the visa because we have no idea how long her father's NICOP will take (one more week...one more month??). So I've literally been on the phone with every Pakistan airport number I can find to try to get a concrete response for whether she would need her own Pakistan passport. After about 18 calls later, I was able to talk to immigration at the Karachi airport who told me that the child would be able to travel as long as her mother has Pakistani Passport.

That was a reassuring answer but now I would really just like to ask anybody who travelled with a Canadian citizen born in Pakistan about their experience. Can a child born in Pakistan who has a Canadian Passport travel to Canada without having Pakistani Passport? Any help would be appreciated, thank you in advance.

tbh its best that u should get child's nicop jsut to be on the safe side even though pakistani passport is less expensive nicop is faster idk if they still need father's nicop for child's nicop, my frnd had the other opposite situation her child was borin in canada n the child travelled to pakistan with a pakistani passport n cdn birth certificate n now the child has to travel back to canada n they emailed the cdn embassy in islamabad n was told to get cdn passport child n nicop as well so the child can travel back to canada bcz the pakistani passport for child had expired it was only valid for a year only, the mother has cdn passport but they were if they mother had pakistani passport they child still needs either pakistani passport or nicop, u will get diff answers i know but the last thing u want is to not able to board on the flight .

Yes, I am ready to apply for either NICOP or Pak passport but I need father's new NICOP to be ready. I'm getting no response from NADRA on this and I have no idea how much longer it could be....I know parents who have had new-borns in Pakistan have been able to travel with only a temporary Canadian Passport with the child so?

A lesson for everyone:

Always keep your documents valid (up to date).
If you're a Canadian national, DO NOT leave Canada without Canadian passport. Leaving Canada with just a citizenship certificate is just plain dumb.
Now it will be more hassle to obtain it from abroad, takes more time, etc. In Canada it is a lot easier. Why did the parents take their child with only Pakistani documents to Pakistan without obtaining Canadian passport ?

And in this day and age, people still conveniently "forget" to renew their ID cards ?

As for the Canadian child to travel abroad, they would need some sort of Pakistani ID as well, such as NICOP or Pak ppt. Nicop should be sufficient.
Parents also need to have valid NICOPs for travel.

The days of laziness are over. Get up and get your paperwork on time and keep them valid at all times.
Trying to get everything done in emergency always end up a big hassle and stress, and hurdles pop up when you least expect them.

I thought the OP was asking if they can travel with JUST the child's Canadian passport, I assume the parents aren't Canadians...

The father is Canadian but the Mom is not and will be travelling with the child. It will be the child's first time coming to Canada as she was born in Pakistan. If we need NICOP for the child then we have to wait for the father's NICOP to be renewed which I have no idea when it will be........

Hello in have the same issue plz help..I have a PR card, but my child only has a Canadian citizenship certificate. Last year, she traveled to Canada using a travel document for the first time and also has a Pakistani passport. She returned on her Pakistani passport. She is only 20 months old, and my Canadian husband forced us to return to Pakistan. Now, I'm in trouble regarding my child's travel. I have PR, so I can travel back, but my child only has a Pakistani passport and not a Canadian passport. What can we do? She only has a Canadian citizenship certificate.can she travel with me on my pakistani passport or she need to have visa bcz she only have pakistani passport right now.. and we want to travel urgently
