calling CIC from outside canada

hi all I was given this number by the canada border control they gave the number to call CIC immigration from inside canada which is 1-888-242-2100 or if your outside canada you can call them on 1-613-944-4000 I was calling them to ask about visiting canada, but there is options to for immigration, I didnt get that far as I spoke to someone else, so not sure how much they deal with, but might be worth calling if you need to call from outside of canada.
It is Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada that you call, but the border control told me that their menu had changed recently and that its the number to call from outside canada for CIC immigration.

P.S just tried the number again went through to the immigration part, and it asks you to have your file number ready.

I used that number from outside Canada, I didn't have a file number only a receipt number, I just ignored it and didn't press anything a few times and it sent me through to an agent. When i talked to the agent she didn't ask for the receipt number only the names on the application. It might be different for each agent though.

the 1 888 number is for both inside and outside canada

no it's not, I tried calling the 1 888 number from outside of Canada and it told me it couldn't connect.

Maybe you need operator assist in order to dial the 1-888 number from outside North America. I tried once with collect call.
