Hi

Nice thread to start. would be very informative if everyone shares his experience, problems, questions, etc. the housing situation is alarmingly critical in calgary. so best to contact any friends , relatives for advance booking before landing.

Hi Friend,

There are many options for short term accomodations. If u r going alone u can look for hostels which are the cheap most.

Hi, thank you so much. Calgary is my favorite destination if I become successful with my application. I am very eager to know more about survival jobs, short study programmes (I have done Masters in Arts and Bachelors in Education), accommodation, climate, culture, people's mentality to new comers and a lot more. I have work experience in teaching only. I am single, so, daring to to take up any job. But as every one, I too need to do as much homework possible before landing. Looking for every body's support, TD

Count me in guys !!

Lets share whatever info we have to make it large as soon as possible.

Regards,
Mav

Hi all calgary settlers..
I am going to land in April 2014...
we can help each other for our preparation for landing and also we can network even after landing....
Please share your knowledge on finding a rental house and getting a health card
If some of you are planning to land in April/March then we can schedule our journey together and make a group of 3,4 families...this will be really helpful....

Hi Guys,

calgary is the right choice for a new immigrant to come as there are plenty job oppurtunities compared to toronto where most of our new immigrants go.

about climate yes it is colder than toronto but calgary has chinook winds which will surprisingly give you nice warmth even in the clodest days on an average this year i think toronto was more colder then calgary even when i am writing this message it is 5 degrees outside and -6 in toronto.

right now calgary is booming with lots of new immigrants coming because of the job situation.

the rents here are typically 1000$ to 1600$ for a 1 or 2 bedroom flat or house.
other expense like grocery can be ne thing between 500$ to 1000$ permonth.

the next thing is you need to get a driving license asap as it is the next requirement after food and shelter then its kids schooling.

all in all if your really plan well things can be really smooth and fast.

setteling time intially just to get the jet lag out 1 week then job doing paper work and job search house search might take one month in all .

everysituation is different but if you get the right help and advice things can really move faster.

soo guys keep in touch i can give different helps as per different requirements, but definately no shortage of advice take it or leave ne time.

best of luck guys ;D
