yes Child benefit are determine by your income. when you first land in canada, you need to write you Indian income of previous year in the form . you do not need to submit anything. Most probably you will get full child benefit.

Child benefit are 100 dollar - universal benefit + 297 state child benefit. ( Universal benefit will be 160 from jan 2015)

As you soon as you land in canada, go for SIN number and collect the form from SERVICE CANADA.

Let me know for any query.

Do they require proof of your foreign income of previous year. What if we show nothing there?

The programs that they offer are mostly free. You have to meet the counselor and register with them. They will guide you for suitable programs as per your international experience if it is available with them. There may be 3 to 6 months waiting period to apply in programs. Also you have to meet certain eligibility criteria set by them to get admission.

Hi Rawdah - is there a link available if anybody wants to contact them before landing?

Security Guards / professionals online / classroom training program at Columbia College - Calgary

The Security Services and Investigator's Act requires any person in Alberta who works in any of the security service positions listed below to have a license. To obtain this license an individual must complete a mandatory training program and write a provincial exam. The course outcomes for this training are intended to provide participants with knowledge and skills in their role and responsibilities as security professionals. Columbia College offers the Alberta Basic Security Training (ABST) course.

For more details pls refer to the following link:

http://www.columbia.ab.ca/programs-courses/professional-programs/alberta-basic-security-training/

Do they need Calgary Police Check of last 6 months for issuing security License?

Just booked short accommodation in Calgary through AIRBNB. It costs 955 CAD for a room with private bathroom in a house for 2 weeks. Not bad. I paid by card. Forum friends can use this service.

But is it possible to manage permanent accommodation in 2 weeks?

Yes it is possible but you will have to invest your time in the process. In addition, take into account the fact that the majority of rentals become available on the 1st day of each month and therefore it is reasonable to come there in the middle of the month. You will have enough time to open a bank account, make a SIN (temporary paper) and start looking for deals.

kio keh aap ticket purchase kar chuki hain is lye apko IOM se koi taluq nahi hai.
as you have purchased ticket you are not supposed to get any assistance from IOM.
in recent previous days it is noticed that IOM is not giving good discounts to new immigrants because now many people are contacting them and it is my personal opinion that IOM realized their market value as well. it is an organization , definitely for profit purpose at some extent.

Anyone planning to study in alberta?

CLBA test is free and conducted at Immigrant services Calgary in Downtown (910 7th Avenue SW).

Call (403) 262-2656 for more information or to schedule your appointment.

It is somewhat similar to IELTS with four modules, LISTENING, WRITING, SPEAKING AND READING.

In the listening module, short recordings are played and after the completion of recordings, the applicants are asked questions based on it verbally.

The highest score one can get is 8 in each module. Score of 7 in each module is considered a good score.

Oh thanks. How about in Edmonton in Catholic Services is it free too?

We should have one small get together.
