I got my PR on Jan 20, 2011. I came to Canada in 2005 as a student. So I get one year credit. I travelled outside Canada for 60 days after getting my PR in 2011. When I calculate my eligibility using their residency calculator, it is deducting the absent 60 days but showing me eligibility to apply for citizenship 120 days from Jan 20, which is 90 days from now. Why are they deducting double days? Any error?

Please help.

CIC looks for 4 years prior the date of application. Due to that window, with each absent day after landing, you lose what is equivalent to two days from the period before landing. So the calculation was right.

Thanks. But if we use the paper form and do the math there, it will deduct exact absent days (not double) and tell you how many days you will need to accumulate 1095 days.

This is really confusing. The paper form is suggesting me to apply in 30 days but the online calculator forcing me in 90 days. Should we report this to CIC?

This is explained by CIC here: https://eservicesak.cic.gc.ca/rescalc/redir.do;jsessionid=B30DA7D864BC8E42049BEA9EC7E2ECFA?redir=faq#PP

The way you calculate:

On January 20th 2013 + 60 days you will have March 2013. At that point, because of your 60 day absence, you will have exactly 730 days in Canada as a PR. The 4 year period then starts in March 2009 and not in January so from March 2009 until January 20th 2011 when you got your PR, you only have 670 days in Canada so half of those days count and you would have total 730 + 335 days = 1065 days, that's 30 days short to apply.

On January 20th 2013 + 120 days, you will have May 2013. At that point, because of your 60 day absence, you will have exactly 790 days in Canada as a PR. The 4 year period then starts in May 2009 and not in January or March so you will have 610 days in Canada before getting PR which counts as half so total you would have 790 + 305 = 1095 days.

You need to have at least 1095 days on the day before you sign your citizenship application. Do not apply too early or your application will be taking the scenic route. It is much better to apply when you are sure you qualify and even to add at couple of weeks for extra safety. If you apply too early, it will delay your application by a lot more than those few days.
