Hi all,

I plan to apply under the Canadian Work Experience category soon. I have worked part time in the last 3 years (totalling more than 1560 hours). I've paid the taxes and have all the necessary docs.

So my questions are:

  • I dont have full time work experience but my part time experience is more than the required 1560 hours, am I still eligible to apply?
  • Are there any drawbacks to not having a full time job ?

Thanks.

I'll answer this first. No, not from a program standpoint, but from an applicant perspective, it can be a PITA.

Part-time work is eligible, but you will have to document your hours. Record of employment and/or paystubs are usually the best.

Keep in mind that part-time work is defined as "less than 30 hours per week," so any week where you work 30 or more hours is a "full-time week" and you don't add up hours (or, you can, but you can only count 30 hours).

Example:
Week 1 - Worked 18 hours - count 18 hours. PART-TIME
Week 2 - worked 29 hours - count 29 hours. PART-TIME
Week 3 - worked 33 hours - count 30 hours. FULL-TIME
Week 4 - worked 42 hours - count 30 hours. FULL-TIME

So even though you worked 122 hours, you can only count 107 hours.

Hello Guys,

I am working in the skill type B job. I am working part time 30hr per week. As per CIC guidelines, do I have to work 1 year or 2 year to consider as 1 year work experience. Some time I also work more than 30 hours. Also does paid Statutory holiday and paid vacation number of hours count or not?? I would really appreciate if somebody will clear my doubt.

Thanks in advance

CIC Guidelines

Full Time

30 hours/week for 12 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)

Part time

15 hours/week for 24 months = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
OR
30 hours/week for 12 months at more than one job = 1 year full time (1,560 hours)
