Hi there! I have a query regarding hours calculation. I have been working at my current job place since September 2016 in canada. But I am working there part time. And my hours are fluctuating every week. Some times it's 7 hrs a week and some times it may go up to 20 hrs or 25 hrs per week. So I put on average 15 hrs per week in my express entry profile. Today I got ITA on the basis of those hours. Although my 2 years experiance will be done in September. Would it matter if I accept the ITA and apply for PR with these fluctuating hours? I am not sure whether it has to be 15 hrs per week part time position is mandatory or you just need to finish 1560 hours in total with part time job within 2 years? Kindly help me friends. I would really appricite your inputs. Thank you in advance!

Hi Rubia,

You'll need to calculate the full-time equivalent (FTE) in weeks of your part-time work experience. The FTE for 1 year experience is 52 weeks.

So in-order to determine your 'total work experience', pro-rate the part-time work - i.e. add up all the hours and divide by 30 to get the full-time equivalent (FTE) - in weeks- of part-time work. (52 weeks = 1 year).

Example, you worked 25 hours per week for a year. 25* 52 = 1300 part-time hours. 1300 / 30 = 43 complete weeks FTE. (Which means that you'll have to get 9 more weeks of FTE to claim one year experience under CEC)

Cheers!

Note you can only count a maximum of 30 hours worked in any week.

The FTE of 1 year is 1560 hours of part-time work. By definition, this will take longer than one calendar year, but how long depends entirely on the hours you work. It's OK to average your hours for the purpose of completing the profile, but you should do a true accounting of hours worked per week for your eAPR. If you happened to work more than 30 hours in a given week, you can only count 30 hours.

Week 1: worked 20 hours credit 20 hours
Week 2: worked 35 hours credit 30 hours
Week 3: worked 15 hours credit 15 hours
Week 4: worked 40 hours credit 30 hours

etc... so while you may have actually worked 110 hours, you can only use 95...

There is no requirement that you complete 2 calendar years. However, full-time workers face the same issue because of the date format, that because the profile uses MM/YYYY instead of MM/DD/YYYY format, you get credit for one year too early.

If 15 hours per week is a realistic summary of your hours, you would not complete the 1 year FTE until you complete 2 years. If you were a full-time worker getting the ITA after 11 months, I would tell you that you should decline the ITA and wait until you actually qualify - the MEC (minimum entry criteria) must be met at the time of the ITA.

So, if you did the full, correct accounting of your actual hours and you have 1560+ as of the date of the ITA, you are good to apply. If not, you should decline - your profile will go back into the pool...

I have question, how about in 3 weeks on 52 weeks, I either worked 8 hrs or less than 30hrs per week due to filing it for holiday or either I didn't get a shift. How should I count my hours? But the rest of 49 weeks I completed the 30 hours per week.

Total the hours you worked in the 3 weeks divide by 30 and round down. That gives you the equivalent number of weeks to add to the 49 full time weeks.

Except for those 3 weeks, you were obviously "full-time". If you earn an hourly wage (as opposed to a salary), do you have vacation pay added to each paycheck? If yes, it is good to have that described in your letter of reference,

You are entitled to claim 2 weeks of vacation==60 hours, so if that makes up the difference, you can count it as one year. If it does not, you have to work another week or two to make up the diffference.

Yes, this is the way to calculate it, but the OP can count 2 weeks as vacation time...

Hi,
I worked part-time 20 hours/week from August 15, 2013, to October 31, 2018. According to the "planetcalc" that is a sum of 271 weeks. So, total time become 5420 hours. Now if FTE for 1 year is 1560 hours, will my experience be counted as 3.5 years?

If you give more details of the split someone will provide an answer. The period for qualifying foreign experience is 10 years. The two categories of experience are assessed separately.

Hiiii if anyone can help me here will appreciate.
I worked at my job full time since july 2018. I got ITA on 25th june 2020 based on my 2 year experience with CRS 436 and the cut off was 431. I worked per week nearby 35, 37.5, 40 or sometimes 40+ hour per week. Last december i worked nearby 23 hour per week, just for only one week. Is it going to conflict?
should i accept my ITA?

Dear Sir/Mam,

I have worked from Oct, 2019 till now in the part-time position between I had worked full-time for my summer break. I have worked full 20 hrs/week in part-time and 30 hrs/week for 4 months.
I would really appreciate if someone can assist me how to calculate the total number of hrs I worked.
Should I consider 15 hrs/week or 20 hrs/week for part-time in order to apply for new PR program ?
Thanks in advance!!!
