I need guidance in obtaining GCMS/CAIPS notes for study permit refusal. A lot of websites are offering this service and therefore I can't figure out which one to go for. I do have a friend in Canada.

1. You will get all the notes, there is no explanation attached, just the reasons behind the refusal which are included in the GCMS notes.

The notes which I obtained for my refusal contains just a paragraph of explanation in last page of the notes (officer review). (Only that part of my notes was completely understandable because that was in simple english). My study visa got rejected on 6th March 2017. I will need to apply for a CAIPS. I just wanted to confirm the process/method for applying for CAIPS since all the guides posted in this thread are outdated for 2012.

You can request your GCMS/CAIPS notes from CIC through
1- (Access to information act) Using a third party (present in Canada) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-atip.asp it will cost 5$.
2- (Privacy Act) By your own (you must be present in Canada) http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/atip/requests-personal.asp it will be free.
Visit these links and you will get the information you need.
There are also some websites available on the internet as well which get your notes for you, but I haven't tried them, as I choose the first option and requested my notes through my father's friend in Canada.

can you tell me , did you get caips with interpretation in $5 ? i saw many websites are offering this service..but it is costly and i doubt if they are genuine

The way under which you can get your CAIPS file after your student visa rejection is under the Access to Information Act (ATI) with the help of a permanent resident, citizen or an individual or corporation currently in Canada who can request for this information on your behalf.

Also, you can opt for the service of CAIPS file from an authorized agency in Canada that deals in such cases such as caipsnotes.com, http://www.caipsfile.ca/, caips.ca etc who requests for CAIPS file on your behalf.
