Hello,

My husbend, daughter and I want to apply within Skilled Worker program. The only problem is my husbends history. He applied as refugee in 1996, and he was rejected. I'm sure that in application we must enter only accurate data, but he doesn't rememeber everything he wrote in his first application. Since he was indented in war in ex Yougoslavia, he had to enter almost everything: where he was, what he was doing, who his superiors were ... Now he can't remember what he wrote. Unfortunatly he didn't keep any documents, nor immigration file number.

Later in 2007, we went in Canada with Visitor Visa and we didn't have any problems. He did get some aditional documents about his war history which he filled them - not so accurate - I'm quite sure. I think that visa officer waren't so thorought, becouse it was just Visitor Visa. We did keep immigration file number, which in this case start with V.

It is essential to get application from 1996 so that he can enter the same data as he did 15 years ago. Just to be clear, he didn't commit any war crimes.
Is it possible to get CAIPS file of his history applications (application from 1996) using only immigration file number from Visitor Visa from 2007?

I'm not sure if anyone can answer this. Theoretically, All info should be available in their systems, however, I know that some practices in government is that they archive their data every 10 years, especially inactive files.

I suggest you contact, separately, CAIPS.ca, and caipsnotes.com, and see what they tell about the possibility, fee and time.

Good luck.

Thank you for your answer :)

Still, I'm wondering... Is there any other way to get copy of application from 1996? And if all data are archived every 10 years, does this mean that we can't get 1996 application? If we can't get it, what about Canadian Visa officer?

Thanks anyone in advance :)
