You might want to consider to buy something that will keep you warm against certain temperatures. For example, in the Canadian artic, there's extreme cold while Vancouver has one of the mildest.

You might want to consider waiting until you get here too. Winter clothes outside of countries that experience winter can be ridiculously expensive and are generally high end. Buy a couple of sweaters and a good windbreaker. That should get you from the airport to a taxi and last you a till you can shop. Look for mittens or gloves and a touque/hat before you come. Keep those extremities warm.

Where can I buy good winter jackets from Mumbai? Landing in Jan 2019

Wait until you're in Canada. Anything you buy in Mumbai most likely won't be warm enough for Canada.

Might be too cold especially if the plane landed in a small airport in the north and OP step foot without a heated gangway.

As above gloves, a hat to cover head / ears and a few extra layers should be fine just for arrival then head to the nearest store.

Sun Sand & Sports (Dhahran mall) for me and Zara Men for my husband (down puffer jacket and waterproof long coat). For mittens, you can check H&M. Scarves and hats are ample in Centrepoint.

So a heavy puffer,a knit sweater, gloves scarf and hat, will it be enough?
Yep. And then I’d proceed to buy good shoes, warm socks and whatever I can’t possibly purchase from the desert to keep out the cold ;)
