If I had the opportunity to buy an RV park in BC, would this accelerate the visa process? Is it possible to buy land as a foreigner? We are going to apply for the skilled worker visa next year. Thanks for the reply.
Canada doesn't have any problems with foreigners buying land - indeed much of the upward pressure on prices here is due to foreign buyers. In addition, if you own property in Canada you may qualify as a seasonal resident, in which case you can come and stay for up to 6 months at a time as well as permanent import goods without duty into Canada (you are restricted from selling those goods for 12 months after you get to Canada).
While it does not directly have bearing upon your application, it does help convince CIC that you have the financial resources necessary to become settled in Canada.
When you go to sell property in Canada you really must work with a tax adviser, otherwise you may find yourself facing a 25% withholding on the proceeds. This can be avoided, but it requires proactive action on your part. If you are a tax resident of Canada, the withholding does not apply.
Good luck!
