Did you stay there for 6 months or more? If not, you don't need it.

If for some reason you get asked for one, you can provide a written explanation that you were there on a business (F) visa and that the government of China does not issue PCCs for visitors on F visas - provide a photocopy of your visa(s) and if you need to, you can cite the info on the US State Dept website -

I had been to shenzen China in 2002 on business visa for 6 months and 9 days but during this stay twice I had gone to HongKong (both visits were for 1-2 days). The stay in China was not consecutive/in a row for 6 months as I had two breaks as mentioned above.

Also, do I have to get PCC for a stay 12 years before? Arent the travel records requested by cic for 10 years only?

Hi

I travelled to China on “F” type visas between 2006 and 2008. I applied and obtained a PCC from China with no issues. I did have the advantage of my lawyer having an office in Shanghai who handled the specific process but it was straight forward and took 2 weeks. CIC outline the process on their web page.

There was a letter in English & Mandarin which I signed, along with copies of my Visa’s and all passport pages which showed my travel into and out of China. The PCC was issued to confirm no criminal activities between the first entry and the final entry into China.

I never stayed longer than 90 days in anyone stay and I did leave the country in between visits.

I can state from my own experience that they do issue PCC’s for holders of “F” type visas, as I obtained one.

I would say the breaks are irrelevant, since they did not cause a change in your residence.

Yes, but unfortunately, the 10-year limiit does not appear to have made it into the rules for PCCs...

Thanks Both of you.

Dr.midnite - can you provide me the details of the lawyer in Shenghai that got you the Pcc. Do they have a website that I can refr to?

Hi Dr.Midnite - I Saw a sample of china pcc in the below site. This lawyer is based out of shanghai. The certificate says "Shanghai pudong Notary public office". Is this kind of pcc specific to shanghai or for entire china irrespective of which state I stayed in china? I did not stay in shanghai, if the pcc provided by agents/ lawyers in shanghai mentions shanghai notary, can cic accept it as pcc of china?

It's not specific to Shanghai. Cic will accept all.

Hi

My certificate came from the Shanghai Oriental Notary Public Office in Shanghai.

I live in Suzhou primarily and travelled through the country extensively, the Shanghai office were able to make the necessary checks. The PCC specifically states “no criminal record during residence in the Peoples Republic of China” so Shanghai were able to cover all of China for the time period I was travelling into and out of the country.

For information the legal team who helped me was Fragomen Worldwide. I am not endorsing them but they helped guide me through the requirements of the China PCC.

Below is the link to the CIC webpage which outlines what is needed for a PCC from the PRC.
