Hello
I am a PR holder awaiting my PR card and completed our landing in the first week of October and had to return to India in a week's time due to a medical emergency of a close family member. I had to extend my stay for 4 weeks due to the passing away of the ailing family member and funeral. I now intend to come back to Toronto but do not have a PR card as it is just about a month since i first landed and I am told it takes more than 60 days. I however hold a multi-year business visa (which hasn't been cancelled when my immigrant visa was issued) and the question I have is can I use this business visa to re-enter Canada in the absence of a PR card or a PRTD .

Alternately, is there any option to request priority processing of the PR card as I am due to begin my new job on 3rd Dec and unsure if i can get my PR card by then?
Thanks in advance for any answers :)

No, you can't use a visa. As a Permanent Resident, you are not eligible to hold ANY type of Canadian visa and they are automatically void upon landing, even if not physically cancelled.
However you may be able to trick the airline into allowing you to check-in/board by showing the visa. This is actually fraudulent use but.....

There is NO urgent processing for the first PR card. You will need to obtain a PRTD.

Thank you, I am probably left with little choice now - either drive into Canada from the US or apply for a PRTD and hope to receive it in 7-10 days.

Was your business visa revoked at any time ?
No, it's still valid and I have used it previously to enter Canada last year for a week long visit. This visa is a multi-entry with 10 year validity and wasn't revoked or cancelled when my Immigrant visa was stamped upon entry as a permanent resident.

Revocation is automatic when the holder becomes a "landed immigrant", not by the issue of an IM-1 visa in a passport or the issue of a COPR.
