Hi,
Lambton College claims and advertises that they have started Lambton college in Saskatchewan, and is promoting their Sask. campus courses, based on the idea, that since one will be studying in Sask., they will need to work only for 6 months in Sask. (as compared to 1 year) to qualify under SINP student category.... and hence faster PR.
They've also started fast track 1 year courses, to get even more students, so that those who cannot afford more tuition fees or to spend more time, can do 1 year course, get 1 year PGWP.. and work for 6 months, and then qualify for SINP.
Fine, looks good.
However, on closer look, we see that...
There is NO Lambton college actual campus in LLoydminsiter, and they are conducting the courses in Lakeland college. Even if they claim it as Lambton college "Sask campus",
but PHYSICALLY LAKELAND COLLEGE, IS LOCATED ON THE ALBERTA SIDE OF THE TOWN. I.E PHYSICALLY, ONE WILL BE studying INSIDE ALBERTA BORDER. However, on Lambton Sask. website they have said:
programs are licensed to Lakeland College, a public college registered in the provinces of Alberta and Saskatchewan.
But Again, Lambton college Sask website has also mentioned:
Students who meet program graduation requirements will graduate with a Lambton College credential from a public institution in the Province of Ontario and operating under the Ministry of Training Colleges and Universities, the same credentials as those in our main campus in Sarnia. It is also important to note that all students studying at the Lambton College Lloydminster campus are registered as full time Lambton College students.
It's a brand new agreement between Lakland and Lambton coleges, and 1st batch I think..is yet to pass out. So, can any1 be sure..as to how the SINP student rule will be applied on Lambton college-Lloydminister satellite campus students? Will they be considered as "Sask. students(required to work only for 6 months) or they will treated as outside Sask. students and hence will be required to work for full 1 year. But, I'm sure... Lambton college must have started promoting this as "Sask campus" after checking the facts.
Anyway, those with 3 years PGWP will have no risks... but what is the point of doing it in a small town of Lloydminsiter, with only 27,800 residents and limited job opportunities, as compared to the same Lambton college course, one can do in a big city of Toronto, where there are all facilities, availability of more resources and employment opportunities(part or full time). It will be a shame, if students there are treated as outside Sask. students, especially when Lambton college is promoting it as Sask campus, simply to lure students on the basis of SINP (that they hav to work only 6 months and hence faster PR). Also, one must keep in mind..that in developed countries..usually the bigger the metro, more people, more facilities, more diversity..usually cost of living when shared is lower than compared to small towns, more white Canadian population because of lack of - accommodation, frequency of transit and other facilities (ethnic stores etc.) and resources.
Those who are pursuing/about to pursue 1 year fast track PG Business certificate in Lloydminster should take the decison of going there very carefully, as in recent cases...even if they are treated as Sask students, work for 6 months... sometimes.. remaining 6 months may not be enough these days..to get SINP nomination... and hence their PGWP will run out and they will face troubles extending their status to temporary WP(by getting positive LMO and all, and hence delaying the process) till their SINP nomination arrives. There have been cases, where some students had to wait for nearly a year after working 6 months/filing SINP form..to receive their SINP nomination due to international students rushing to Saskatchewan in higher numbers.
Maybe, the experience can be better..or worse.. depending upon one's prespective. We as Forum members can only wait and see... how fellow forum members who are going for this particular course in Lloydminister fare.. and hopefully share actual on the ground situation and information with all of us.
Best of Luck to those going there.
