Any updates guys?

Hey Guys,

Will the revised FSW programs hit the existing application? I am especially concerned with Revised language Requirements "Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB)" of 7, I guess? In meantime any PPR's issued, without being affected by these revised standards, which otherwise would, especially pre-june 2010 applicants. Please share your thoughts.
Thanks in advance.

Hi - I applied through Sydney (Buffalo VO) in December 2010. I spoke with 2 different MPs at the end of last year and both said (separately) that I should be hearing from Ottawa by February. Hopefully the reality won't be as bad as your describe it...

Justtheme, I've heard this as well - but if you look at other threads and look at the history of this website, there have been so many broken, unfulfilled or inaccurate statements and promises made by MP's regarding these issues. The truth of the matter is that a MP is a politician and while it is nice that they are answering our questions they ultimately are not working for CIC and are less likely to be able to predict the visa timeline or status than an actual CIC employee who works specifically on our applications. I am really happy so many MP's are saying these things but until I see it actually happen I will treat it as hearsay. Not trying to be bleak or negative - just basing this on how things have gone so far. I hope they prove me wrong.

Got my visa and COPR in person at Detroit yesterday.

Hi Guys,
Yesterday I talked to my MP office staff regarding my application status, they took all my information and called me back in an hour and told me that your application is in Ottawa and thousands of applications are pilled up in Ottawa and no one is in a situation to let us know when my turn will come. she told me to call back their office in end February and they will check again with CIC.
I don't know when our application will be processed.

I have to wonder - after 6 months since files were received in Ottawa, what exactly are they processing? What's the rational in even contemplating receiving new applications in 4 months time when they have thousands of files untouched? Why are they opening up new streams when the backlog from old ones appears not to go away?

But I quickly remind myself of my own favourite line: If you can't WAIT to be processed, don't apply for Canada PR.

I keep telling people, your MP doesn't know more than you do, he's just a politician who tries to make you feel better, only the actual Visa office does. Fact is: As long as your file is not assigned to a Visa Officer, it will only sit there until such a time when it is assigned. Again, you are likely gonna get medical request or PPR depending on your stage when someone reviews your file. Only VOs know when these will happen.

Looks like February is set to be the month for assigning PR applications in Ottawa to their VO officers. Read a lot in these forum where MP's told applicants they might hear something from Ottawa next month and MP's can contact CIC again next month. Count me in! My MP said the same thing!

Dear members,
I am an intnl student doing last semester only 1 subject remaining for graduation, but my visa gonna expire in march2013 and my last exam is on 15 april 2013. Just for 15 day i need study permit extension and after graduating I need to submit another application to get post graduate work permit. So the whole process gonna take 6 months. I am in delima now whether I should continue studying or apply for Open Work Permits for Certain Federal Economic Class Applicants as I received a positive eligibility decision on my PR application under FSW .

As per the following operation bulleten 485:
http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2012/ob485.asp

I am also awaiting for any decision from CIC since my file was moved to OTTAWA.

Somebody please advice me what is better recommended.
Thanks

You need to have been in Canada on a work permit to qualify for bridging. Bridging simply removes the stress of seeking LMOs each time your work permit is to be renewed. You can't apply for Postgraduate work permit until you have graduated, so whether it's one day left in your studies or 2 weeks, you need a new study permit so you don't compromise your degree.

I do think you have a pretty straight forward case ( don't know why you think you are in some dilemma), and I thought that having been studying in Canada all these while you should know the rules. Please check your situation before making your move so you don't jeopardize anything.

That same February will be exactly the 8 months Ottawa is claiming as standard processing time since files were transferred to them in July. Technically, a large chunk of applicants, if not all from Buffalo transfers, should get PR next month. But does that look realistic?

I agree...The Mpz are giving the date, if all goes well , according to plan...but since when did CIC processing times are ever according to plan...
I think end of April is more likely a realistic date....and im basing this on absolute certianly NO FACTS OR FIGURES....just past disappointments with lack of resources of CIC and their hands being tied by the political nature and pressure from the goverment.

i wish all of us good luck..to get our PRs and move on from this never ending stage that we are stuck in.

Office assistant told me to give her call in end February and she will again check from CIC for any progress. Keep in mind that this is not the date of any thing happening, she will just check the status only.

Exactly. Like I said in my last post, not trying to be negative - but there is wishful thinking and there is reality. The reality is, MP's are politicians. They will say/do anything to placate you, but at the end of the day, they are elected officials, NOT immigration officers. They don't work at CIC and they won't be able to get any more information on your specific application than you would if you emailed the generic CIC address to ask. Don't put so much faith in your MP.

The new office in Ottawa will probably speed things up eventually (in a few years), but unfortunately, those of us that applied over the last 2 years to the Buffalo VO just have bad timing. We applied right before all of these changes CIC has implemented, and so we won't really be able to take advantage of the efficiencies these changes will eventually create. We are stuck in a giant backlog that will take a long time to sort out; I expect we might even have to wait longer than the pre-June applicants because of the delays associated with moving all of our files from Buffalo to Ottawa, but I'm hoping it won't be any slower than it has been. Right now it seems like the average wait time for FSW1 through Buffalo was about 2.5 years from application to visa. I'm just hoping it doesn't get any worse than that, in which case people like me who applied in March-April 2011 time frame should get their visas by December 2013, one year from now.
