We have been 'in process" since June 2010. Our medicals will expire in mid-February.

Our application has been delayed because of problems obtaining a Mexican federal police clearance. We have no idea when we'll obtain it, but my feeling is that the chances of it getting to CIC Buffalo before the medicals expire are slim to none.

I do not want to finish waiting all these months for the police certificate only to be asked to obtain new medicals and then wait more for the new medicals to get to Buffalo.

I did some searching here to try to figure out if it's a good idea to just get the medicals redone prior to being asked for them. The responses I saw seemed to say that it depends on your particular visa office.

What is the case with Buffalo? Should we get the medicals in advance of them expiring? Or is CIC Buffalo one of the offices that does not require that recently expired medicals be redone? Thanks.

It doesn't depend on the visa office. You can redo the medicals if you like but it's at your own risk. The VO will only ask you to redo expired medicals if they are set to approve your application. If your application is not approved and you've redone your medicals, it's money wasted. So it's your choice. My husband and I were in the same situation. We chose to take the risk and redo the medicals because we didn't want to have any further delays. It worked out for us.

Did you use the following procedures to get your Federal police clearance from Mexico since you are living outside of Mexico?

Thanks. I would also rather take the risk. The possible savings of time is more valuable to me than the money.

Yes, we are aware of the procedures you linked to. My spouse initially did not follow them and obtained a Constancia and later we submitted again in accordance with the procedures to attempt to obtain an Informe. However the information in the CIC's link is not complete and is not universally applied to all applicants. I would not recommend that applicants simply follow the instructions in that link as it will not work in all circumstances and there are faster/easier methods that are not listed on the link. Had I known this in advance I would have paid a consultant with experience with Mexico to do our application solely because the police certificate issue has turned out to be so convoluted for us.

I have just this afternoon taken up the issue with my MP. If I get anywhere with it I will post an update in the Mexico thread with full details.

Hello,

I would suggest you to not to redo medical untill they ask you. I have almost similar timeline of yours. My medical was expired on 1st oct, 2010. Today i have just received my CAIPS notes where i come to know that they have extend my medical validity till 14th march, 2011.

God Knows the Best.

Best of luck

This was great information.
I've since requested my CAIPS as I'm in the same boat -- we've had to wait so long on our App for PR that our medicals have now expired.
When we get our CAIPS, I'm hoping that will give us the info we need - whether to redo them or wait.
