why has lots of processing not started on your work after such a long time?

I make no claim that processing has not started on my case. I only know that I have heard nothing since my medicals were received November 2011.

It may be that my case is complicated and they are working feverishly to fix the problem
It may be taht there has been a missed communication and they are waiting for a reply from me
It may be that there is a delay (for a good reason ?)
I do not know.

That is why I have applied for my notes under the privacy act. I am reluctant to do that as (in the big picture) it takes away resources from processing immigration claims. However I now have to make a judgement call and feel that it is the right time to investigate and to try and resolve the (potential) problem.

I merely offer the share the time taken to reply to the privacy act request for the benefit of others on this forum.

Time line of Events for Application Dates
Appication Received 10/27/2011
Medical Completed 10/24/2011
Approved Part 1 1/9/2012
Birth Certificate requested 2/14/2012
Requested additional information 2/17/2012
Back up information sent to buffalo office via email in response to 2/14/2012 request 2/23/2012
Email Fingerprint check requested thru RCMP by Buffalo Consulate 3/12/2012
Fingerprint check Mailed to RCMP 4/4/2012
email from buffalo that application is in process and they they are unable to provide a date as to when the processing of my application will be complete 4/12/2012
Results sent by RCMP to Buffal Consulate for fingerprints per 5/25/2012 email from RCMP 5/11/2012
Notification via email that case was transferred to Ottawa 6/22/2012
Ottawa help desk email states file was transffered and is working thru a large number of files at same time 9/17/2012
Ottawa help desk sends email stating that I should hear from an agent within 2 months 10/17/2012

I agree with you. I think it's about time that we let every body know how irresponsible the government action to close the Buffalo visa office was and the extent in which it impacted our lives.

Sorry about my misunderstanding of your post...But are you now saying the one of the reasons outlined in your post
will be the reason for the delay?..What of others?

I have been reading the thread for a good few months trying to glean any information possible as to where and when my application might get dealt with. I am a BC PNP applicant and in the same boat as most people here in that my file was transferred from Buffalo when it closed.

Anyway - i just thought i would share with you all that i got the long awaited email requesting my passport, etc this morning 10.45am!!! So that is another one processed by Ottawa.....


My timeline is as follows:
- File recieved in Buffalo: 1st June 2011
- Medical done: End September 2011
- Transferred from Buffalo to Ottawa: July 2012 (so i was told by the MP who rang on my behalf)
- Email requesting passport: Today! Nov 28th 2012.


In response to a lot of the questions i see arrise in the earlier messages:
- My ecas status has never changed since "application recieved" - It is not a reliable source of information
- I applied for the GMCS notes to check my progress and they never arrived
- My medical is over a year old so i guess they must be extending them (a friend of mine is an immigration lawyer and has a contact in Ottawa - they asked for me and said the medical would be dealt with on a case by case basis and would more than likely be extended for another year - i guess mine was)
- I contacted my MP and they were not able to find out anything that i did not already know.
- My contact address on the email is still wrong despite my notifying them of the change about 6-times.


So it seems they are finally looking at our cases. Good luck to you all and for what it is worth i would advise to stay as patient as you can - the day will eventually arrive!!!

With not Ottawa also printing off Visas and issuing PPR, it might be a good thing as time would be reduced rather than sending Detroit as we will be one of the first ones there but I am not sure if this will be part of the delay of our PR Processing. Another thing that it might impact is our landing, I believe some people who went to Detroit in person landed on the way back, which will not be possible when this happens!
