Starting this forum to track the application status and success stories for folks who have applied through Buffalo..

Desperately need to hear some good news for few of us since it has been quite a while that 'Buffalo' has given a green signal to someone..

Mine is near by--Aug 2009 I received the acknowledgement from Buffalo office. No news after that. Status is same--received by visa office..I read in the forum that they are processing 2008 as of now..but it has been a while that I read that first.

Anyone has any other updates?

Application screened: November 10 2009
Requestfrom Detroit consulate for spouse documents and updated FBI clearance for myself, W2 forms for all the years I worked in the US, and proof of residency in Canada for my sister : December 14 2009.

I plan to send additional requested documents before the New Year.

You are right Rupesh...It's really unfortunate that Nov 2008 backlog is yet to be cleared...

Have you heard of any recent success story from Buffalo?

I heard that they have some yearly quota too and if that's being fulfilled,they will take the new lot of applications next year..Again not sure
how true is this?

btw-What's your current status in E-cas?

Application received at visa office.
Yes, there is a quota but we should just apply or wait as if there is no quota, because it is not something we can affect. We also don't know if they assign a certain number to each office.

In some sense yes lol. During the year that I had to wait, I have been rethinking my move to Canada. Recently a strong snow storm took place where I live in the US, and I am not sure I want to live in a place where I have to shovel out snow often. Unlike most people, I don't really care about GC, etc so I am okay with living here. It has given me time to think about my move to Canada. I still would like to get Canada PR because it would be another option in terms of jobs but even if I get it, I might not use it . So to summarize, the time has given me some perspective on what I want in life.

Interesting aspect...its like a certain period they require between your marriage application and actual wedding...
I dont know about GC in US, but for people that are living in Canada, permanent residence really makes the difference. My application for a faculty position in one of the universities here was recently rejected due to the reason that I am not a permanent resident yet...("canadians and permanent residents are given priority").
Hopefully, I am going to get my PR before they do the same in 2 other universities I have applied!!!
As I am married to a same-*censored word* partner, going to US is not an option for us (I cannot bring him as my partner according to US Federal immigration laws... ).

I have heard from some people that some universities in Canada don't take the "canadians and permanent residents are given priority" seriously while other universities do. Depends also on the size or "prestigiousness' of the university (roughly speaking). However, for some fields like engineering, it is required for the university to have 50% of the faculty with at least one Canadian engineering degree, else the graduates of the program won't be able to get professional engineering certification. Perhaps you can throw some light on me about whether what I say is true.

Canada is, of course, much more liberal when it comes to same-gender partnerships. So are you living in Canada now without a PR status? I want to be a faculty one day too, whether it is going to be in Canada or in the US makes little difference to me I think. I do like the socially liberal part of Canada but am scared of the cold.

Am I correct in saying that you are close to completing the application process?

I dont know about engineering, but in my field yes, they strongly prefer someone with a "professional" bachelor degree from the same field (and eligible for licencing in Canada). What we did later, on our master, PhD and postdoc, defines our research field, but for teaching they want us to have BSc from the same field (as they define, "an asset").
I did my postdoc in Canada and currently work in one of universities here as a research associate (which is basically the same as a postdoc but with somewhat higher salary and a possibility to be co-applicant on grants).
I do have a relevant professional BSc degree, and I do have 15 published papers in very good journals from my PhD and from my postdoc. So, I really feel upset that they rejected my application for a faculty position without interview, clearly on permanent residence background...
As to being close to completing the PR application...well, the online status has been changed to "In Process" few days ago...hopefully it means that I am close, but noone really knows how long it is going to take...

That is a shame they strongly prefer someone from Canada because they will be loosing a lot of good candidates such as yourself. it seems especially silly to loose someone who is already in Canada and is eligible for PR anyway. Medical Studies another case, it's rare to find an international student or faculty without Canadian studies. expect couple of universities which have 1-3 places for international's but fee is too high. 10X normal fee.
